militants attack Adamawa communities, as suicide bomber kills nine

A suicide bomber has killed nine persons in Garkida in Adamawa State while Boko Haram terrorists have attacked the Madagali area in the state in a renewed offensive by the insurgents in the liberated areas.

Details of the attack remained sketchy at the time of filing this report but reports reaching us said that troops have engaged the militants in a fierce gun battle to flush them out of the embattled communities.

N5tn domestic debt incurred by Jonathan govt in five years

In the over five years that President Goodluck Jonathan has been presiding over the affairs of the country, the Federal Government has borrowed N5.04tn from the domestic debt market.

Fuel scarcity continues as Petroleum Tanker Drivers embark on strike action

It appears the lingering fuel crisis will not disappear anytime soon as the Petroleum Tanker Drivers Association have decided to stop the lifting of fuel from petroleum depots across the country.

The body leadership sent out a stern warning to its members to stop lifting petrol from all depot.

"Comrades/unit chairmen/executives, you are directed to suspend all loading activities in all the depots as from Monday, 18th of May. There will be severe sanctions for any chairman/others that does not comply.” the message sent to the members of the association read.

No reason was stated. However industry players say the tanker drivers are protesting the non-payment of their transportation fees owed them by the oil marketers. The oil marketers in turn claim they cannot pay the tanker drivers because of the N200 billion subsidy arrears owed to them by the federal government.

Tragedy as British woman is found dead in Thai hotel pool hours after arriving to begin holiday of a lifetime with her partner

A British holidaymaker says his 'whole world dropped' when he discovered his partner had died in a swimming pool while he was sleeping just yards away in their Thai hotel.

Rachel Turner and Stefan Brown, from Wolverhampton, West Midlands, were just one week into a seven-week 'trip of a lifetime' to South-East Asia when the tragedy occurred.
