This Housemaid Was Sent To Jail For Stealing Underwear

An Igbosere Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a housemaid, identified simply as Vivian, to two months’ imprisonment for stealing her mistress’ sets of underwear and other valuables.

The 20-year-old was employed by her mistress, Bisi Awoniyi, on a salary of N20,000 per month.

Vivian was entitled to one day per week off duty. On September 9, she was to leave the house to observe her off day.

Awoniyi reportedly searched her housemaid’s bag before allowing her to leave.

The boss discovered her face towels, causing her to conduct a thorough search into Vivian’s luggage.

Awoniyi found other valuables, including several pieces of underwear and night wears belonging to her.

After checking the accused’s phone, she also discovered that Vivian had three different newly-opened bank accounts.

The matter was reported immediately to the Dolphin Police Station, Ikoyi, and Vivian was arrested.

The police obtained a search warrant on the house where the housemaid stayed, discovering more stolen items.

She was arraigned on one count of stealing.

The accused pleaded guilty and the magistrate, Mrs A.G, Omoyele, sentenced her to two months’ imprisonment.
