Lagos fire - Residents count losses

No fewer‎ than 300 rooms were burnt to ashes in a fire outbreak at Coast Street, Ebute Meta of Lagos State.

It was learnt that the fire incident started a few minutes past 5pm on Tuesday.

When our correspondent got to the scene of the outbreak at about 5.30pm, residents were seen trying to salvage whatever they could.

According to some eyewitnesses, the outbreak  was from a power generating set.

The owner of the power generator, said to be a woman, was adding more fuel to the set while it was still running. As a result, the power generator was said to have started burning which quickly spread to other buildings.

Residents of the area, however, lamented the late arrival of the fire services.

It was gathered that despite the late arrival of men of the fire services, some of their vehicles were with insufficient water.

As of the time of this report, no life was reported lost.
