Nelson
Oamen, the 34-year-old accused of stabbing his father, Ehiremen, to death in
the Ipaja area of Lagos, has turned himself in to the police.
Punch
Metro reports that Nelson, who had earlier escaped from the house, reported at
the Ipaja Police Division on Thursday. He had been reportedly transferred to
the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, for further
investigation.
On
Monday, September 21, 2015, the suspect, said to be a drug addict, allegedly stabbed his 74-year-old father, an indigene of Edo State, to death in their apartment
in Block 272, Abesan Estate, in the Ipaja area.
The
suspect, who was said to have fled the apartment after the killing, allegedly
removed the
septuagenarian’s
heart and escaped with it.
Ehiremen,
who was a retired worker in a company in Apapa, and had lived in the estate for
about 15 years, had been battling with stroke before his son reportedly stabbed
him to death.
It
had been also reported that Nelson’s younger sister was the one who discovered
Ehiremen’s corpse after finding traces of blood in the family’s sitting room.
The lady, who did not want to disclose her name, had found the septuagenarian
in a pool of blood. She subsequently raised the alarm.
Some
neighbours and residents, who also rushed to the room to see Ehiremen, observed
that there was a deep hole on the left side of his chest, and discovered that
Nelson removed his father’s heart before fleeing.
PUNCH
Metro learnt that Nelson walked into the police station to report himself on
Thursday, during which he allegedly confessed to the crime.
The
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, confirmed the
arrest.
He
said, “The man has been arrested. He actually handed over himself to the police
at Ipaja, who took him to the SCID, Yaba. He has also confessed to the crime.”
